Getting Married in 2013?

Congratulations!

There is a lot to plan and prepare for the big day. Dress, Food, Venue, Entertainment, Tuxes, Entertainment and so much more.

Have you ever considered hiring a magician to entertain at your wedding reception? Magicians have a unique skill set that can bring people together and entertain for the whole evening. A well-versed magician can add an element of class and memorability to you event. At the end of the night most people won’t remember the venue or the meal or even the DJ, but good magic is designed to stick.

Picture this: Your guests are enjoying the finger foods and drinks. There is some mingling amongst family members and lite background music is playing. From one of the corner tables, a playful laughter grows, followed by a round of applause. They are having fun and something exciting is happening. The rest of the room is curious. Magic is afoot.

You want your guests to have fun and be entertained? Hire a good magician.

Here a few things to consider:

You get what you pay for.
I’m not saying, the more expensive the better, but I caution against the overly cheap. It’s not hard to call around and find a $100 magician to come in and do tricks. Unfortunately for the client, the majority of those performers aren’t used to working a wedding type of event. The last thing you want is a cheesy clown in an obnoxiously bright suit twisting balloon animals during the father-of-the-bride’s speech. It takes a tremendous amount of study and experience to perform for a wedding properly. Invest in a seasoned magician, you’ll be happy you did. The right performer will add a touch of class to any event.

Ask to see a trick
Any decent magician should be able to perform something for you with a moment’s notice. If the presentation of the magic doesn’t leave you feeling like he would be a good fit for your wedding guests, think twice about hiring him. On the other hand, if you are blown-away and enjoy the experience, your guests would be too. Follow your gut on it.

Ask for references,
check his website and ask around. In this day and age, you should be able to educated decisions about performers. If you’re looking at a few difference performers, take a look at their clientele lists. Are they full of kids’ birthday parties or black-tie events. Watch the promo videos to get a feeling of what flavor of performer he is.

Talk with the magician before the big day.
Discuss any special requests you have, and ask if he has any ideas or tips that would make the evening more special. The main question that airline pilots are asked in an interview is, “How many flight hours have you logged?” The reason is, if you have put in the flight time, you will have seen every situation imaginable. The same is true for live performers. Let their experience work for you.
